Recently I’ve begun reading through the Dark Tower series by Stephen King. Now, I’m pretty against Mr. King most of the time. I don’t like his style, I don’t like his topics, and I don’t like his popularity. But what I’ve discovered by reading this series is that I’m not actually against Stephen King. No, I’m against the writing conventions he smugly breaks, I’m against the intentional cheap shots he deals to your brain on the way through, I’m against the fact that his writing is just so damn good.
Let’s face it, the man is brilliant. The story of Roland draws you in, much as in the second book he draws his three. You find yourself an often confused, sometimes blinded, but always interested outside observer. You want to know more, you need to know more about Roland and his mid-world. You want to see his guns, see his Gilead, and learn from his teachers.
So what am I saying? I guess what I’m really saying is, if you haven’t, go take a look. Bury yourself in a psychotic and mind altering book that will entertain and amuse you for multiple reads.
I never did read the whole series, but I must say I like how it started.
Mostly, I stopped by and commented because I was pleased to see you are posting on your blog. I’ll have to stop by more often now. Take care.
I’d put it into consideration were I you. It’s an excellent series.
